- SUBJECT: CLARIFICATION OF NEW ESL PROGRAM INTRODUCED JANUARY 2, 1992
-
- This information is being distributed to help clarify the Education
- Software Library (ESL) program introduced January 2, 1992.
-
- EDUCATION SOFTWARE LIBRARY (ESL) PROGRAM
-
- The new Education Software Library program was introduced on January
- 2, 1992. This communciation is being sent to outline the new program.
-
- The expanded ESL will provide centralized technical support for all of
- the products in the Campuswide Software License Grant Program (CSLG),
- which currently exceeds 400 software products and the CSLG Partner
- Program (for software products that Digital supports). The program
- will support Digital software products running on VAX, RISC, PC, and
- Sun systems.
-
- PREREQUISITES:
-
- o The institution must be licensed for the software through the
- Campuswide Software License Grant Program (CSLG) and the Campuswide
- Software License Grant Partner Program.
-
- o The institution must establish a central site (Technical Assistance
- Center) to manage the program, provide first-level technical
- support to software end-users, and screen 80% of calls.
-
- o The institution must submit an annual ESL Management Plan, which
- must be approved by Digital, to participate in the program.
-
- o Once the ESL contract begins, the institution is required to
- submit seminannual reports (due January 15 and July 15) identifying
- changes to ESL administration, number of systems, etc.
-
- DIGITAL PROVIDES:
-
- o Advisory and Remedial telephone support is provided to the three
- authorized contacts 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, for 400+ software
- products licensed through CSLG and CSLG Partner Program.
-
- Additional CSC contracts (3 additional for a total of 6 contacts) can be
- purchased separately.
-
- o Electronic access to both DSNlink and Digital Software Information
- Network (DSIN) 24 hours a day, 7 days per week for the 3 CSC contracts
- (or 6 contacts if additional contacts were purchased).
-
- Media and Documentation Distribution Service (MDDS) is purchased separately
- for each individual product. Consolidated Distribution on CDROM for media
- (CONDIST) and documentation (OLD), now available for both VMS and ULTRIX
- operating system and layered products, are recommended as a cost effective
- way to maintain versions of software. There is also a combination service
- for both CONDIST and OLD called CDDS.
-
- CLARIFICATION OF PATHWORKS SUPPORT:
-
- The new ESL program now includes support for all PATHWORKS server and
- client products. That includes support for DOS, OS/2 and MAC. Please
- remember, the CSLG only provides the license for the PATHWORKS for VMS
- Server and the PATHWORKS for Ultrix Server. The customer is still
- responsible for purchasing the client licenses for their individual PC's.
-
- When determining the number of systems for your ESL, each PC counts as one
- system. So, in order to support your PC's under the ESL that are running
- PATHWORKS clients, you must count each PC as ONE system. If you do not
- want to support your PC's under the ESL, then you would need to purchase
- support for them outside of the ESL.
-
- Currently the support for PATHWORKS outside of the ESL is sold under one
- part number and is based on the number of PC's that you have. Therefore,
- you have the option of either purchasing support for PATHWORKS
- commercially, or you can add the PC's to your ESL system count and receive
- support for PATHWORKS.
-
- PRICING:
-
- The fees are based on a three tier schedule. This pricing is based on the
- number of systems (VAX, RISC, PC, Sun) that the institution has under the
- CSLG at the time they join the ESL.
-
- 1-25 systems $13,920 annual fee
- 26-100 systems $20,400 annual fee
- over 100 systems $30,324 annual fee
-
-
- OTHER CHANGES IMPLEMENTED WITH THE NEW ESL PROGRAM:
-
- o The 50% discount special on Software Documentation ordered through
- DECdirect is no longer available. Software Documentation purchased
- through DECdirect is still eligible for the 30% discount for
- Education customers as part of the TEI program.
-
- o The 10% discount on Software Support Service (SSS) and Layered
- Product Support (LPS) is no longer available. This applies to LPS
- purchased for layered software products not included in the old ESL
- service and for CSLG customers purchasing a la carte SSS and LPS
- (non-ESL customers).
