  28. I think Shelli's question may have to do with remote access.  Here at
  29. Southern our goal is to provide students and faculty at three different
  30. campuses access to our CD server (named Romulan).  Rather than creating
  31. passwords and user accounts for 20,000+ people, we let our computer
  32. services maintain their accounts on the academic VAX.   Computer services
  33. keeps the accounts current by purging student accounts quarterly when they
  34. receive an updated enrollment report from the registrar's VAX unit.  Any
  35. student with an account on the VAX has a menu option for Romulan.  Locally,
  36. we setup our Saber menus to give access to some databases and not others
  37. based on generic grouping.  Maintaining the accounts assures that only
  38. enrolled students are competing for the CD server resources.  It also
  39. provides a way for student or faculty with modems to access Romulan from
  40. home, office or dorm room.
