  29. I think A1MAIL is probably your best bet here.  All of the traditional PC based
  30. solutions are not going to use the VAX as a mail server.  They can use the VAX
  31. as a gateway (e.g. something like PMDF's cc:Mail channel) but you're going to
  32. have to set up and run PC based post offices, as well as dedicated PC's for
  33. gateways.  PMDF can help somewhat in tying them together, but you will be managing
  34. PC servers, PC post-offices, and PC gateways, requiring multiple single-tasking
  35. dedicated DOS machines.  Just an ugly solution.  All of this can be handled easily
  36. by a VMS system with A1MAIL.  I'm sure that A1MAIL with PMDF-MR and other MR
  37. gateways can provide connectivity (all on one single platform) to anything you
  38. might need to talk to.

  44. Not sure of your question.  If you means where can you send mail, then
  45. through Message Router you can get to:

  47.     any PMDF    using PMDF-MR (SMTP/BITnet/VMS MAIL/PMDF-FAX/etc...)
  48.     X.400       using MRX
  49.     VMS MAIL    using PMDF-MR (or MRGATE -- better with PMDF-MR)
  50.     SNADS       using MR/S
  51.     PROFS       using MR/P

  53. If you mean what is the transport between PC/Mac and A1MAIL server then the
  54. answer is DECnet.  They may also support TCP/IP, but I'm not sure.
