- ABSTRACT:

- The Connection Machine CM-5 Supercomputer system is described with
- emphasis on the solution to large scale scientific problems. The
- system architecture is presented including processing node
- architecture, communication network, control network, I/O structure
- and timesharing. Connection Machine software including languages,
- compilers, application libraries, and interactive debuggers are also
- discussed.

- ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

- John Richardson is a Senior Scientist at Thinking Machines Corporation
- where he works on computational physics problems. He received his Ph.D.
- in theoretical physics from the University of California at Irvine in
- 1977. Before joining Thinking Machines Corporation, Dr. Richardson was
- a faculty member at the University of California at Santa Barbara in
- the Electrical and Computer Engineering department and was a recipient
- of a Presidential Young Investigator award.
