- The problem could be in one of several areas! The only thing you failed
- to mention was the model of the TV! This can be critical, as some sets
- have a calibration mode where the Red and Blue signals are cut (usually
- by the tech flipping a switch inside the guts of the TV), so that just
- one gun is shooting, then the convergence, etc, can be adjusted for the
- general conditions, and the red and blue can then be brought back in to
- be calibrated against the green. Also, some various diagnostic modes on
- some models, involve just the green gun. It is possible (especially in
- more recent sets) that the hi-volts got into the switching ciruitry that
- controls these modes, and the set is simply flickering in and out of the
- relevant mode.

- A completely different option is that the hi-volts surged through the
- tuner into the i/f stages, and played havoc with the color separator
- circuitry. I.e. the decoder may be coughing every now and then and
- forgetting to decode the red and blue (I am not sure on this, I can't
- remember enough of my Tele 100 course, I know the colors are mixed into
- a chroma and luminance type signal, but someone somewhere breaks out
- red, green and blue from them).

- An entirely different possibility is that the "wire" that the tech
- spotted and repaired was only one of a few that got zapped. I have
- fixed a set from similar circumstances that had a yoke coil lead zapped
- off by lightning (how? Dunno, came in the antenna socket, went all over,
- and that was the only thing that gave out, at least that we found). The
- effect of this was that the vertical deflection got killed, and we had a
- mezmerising colored line halfway down the tube face, from left to right!
- A quick solder job, on the lead (with interestingly charred insulation
- at the yoke end!), and the set went fine. Far as I know, still going
- too, about 8 years down the track.

- So you can see, the problems are potentially all over, and the model of
- the set may help, since there are "known weaknesses" for particular
- models.
