  22. Let's see, what have been the biggest ripoffs I have experienced:
  23.     1. first wife, stealing everything and using the court system.
  24.     2. former best friend, sleazy bankruptcy.
  25.     3. LAPD - response to crank call, threat with gun, handcuffed, then
  26.       beat up, threatened phoney charges.  Had to pay for lawyer.
  27.       They were lying, but no refunds or complaints possible.
  28.      (LAPD also caused LA riot.  $1B damage, not refundable.)
  29.     4. Nasty takeover of a co-op by Derek Shearer, Tom Hayden, etc., in
  30.        their bid to take control of City of Santa Monica caused a 
  31.        significant loss.
  32.     5. Hassled by IRS for some forms I couldn't get.  After 3 years they
  33.        subpoenaed them.  Proved they owed me refund, as I had said.
  34.        Sorry, no refunds after 3 years.

  36. Courts, easy bankruptcy , police dept., corrupt politicians, IRS.
  37. What do those have in common? (hint: select business or government)

  39. The phoney bills, get rich quick schemes, inflated auto repair estimates, etc.,
  40. start around number 20.  Most can be avoided with a little common sense,
  41. wariness, and remembering TINSTAAFL.  Government ripoffs come without
  42. warning, can take everything you have, and are backed by force.
