- I agreed with most of your article, but not this part. I'm not sure what
- the official GSUSA policy is on homosexuals, but I can say for certain that
- it is *not* inclusive of atheists. They, just like the BSA, require a
- pledge to God in their promise that is perhaps more exclusive in that it
- simply states "To serve God" without much room for personal interpretation
- like the Boy Scout oath which at least states "To do my duty to God". I've
- written to the National Office on this issue several times, and their only
- response was "If you can't accept the Promise, quit".
-
- I'm not entirely certain why the discriminatory policies of GSUSA haven't
- received as much attention as those of BSA, and I think it's unfortunate.
- My guess is that it's because Girl Scouts don't receive nearly as much
- publicity as Boy Scouts in general, or perhaps because not as many Girl
- Scouts have risen to bring up the issue. It's really a sad thing that
- both Scout organizations that do so much for young people have to adhere
- to traditions of discrimination and intolerance.
