  21. I agreed with most of your article, but not this part.  I'm not sure what
  22. the official GSUSA policy is on homosexuals, but I can say for certain that
  23. it is *not* inclusive of atheists.  They, just like the BSA, require a 
  24. pledge to God in their promise that is perhaps more exclusive in that it
  25. simply states "To serve God" without much room for personal interpretation
  26. like the Boy Scout oath which at least states "To do my duty to God".  I've
  27. written to the National Office on this issue several times, and their only
  28. response was "If you can't accept the Promise, quit".

  30. I'm not entirely certain why the discriminatory policies of GSUSA haven't
  31. received as much attention as those of BSA, and I think it's unfortunate.
  32. My guess is that it's because Girl Scouts don't receive nearly as much
  33. publicity as Boy Scouts in general, or perhaps because not as many Girl
  34. Scouts have risen to bring up the issue.  It's really a sad thing that
  35. both Scout organizations that do so much for young people have to adhere
  36. to traditions of discrimination and intolerance.
