  10. I have seen (many moons ago) information on a company that provides
  11. "before you start it" oil pumps.  Basically, you add an aux. oil
  12. pump that runs off the battery, and you pressurize your lubrication
  13. system before turning the key to start the engine.  I have also 
  14. read that on a typical 500 mile trip, 98% of the engine wear occurs
  15. in the first ten seconds.  I did inquire about the aux. oil pumps
  16. quite a while back, and found that the company had moved from 
  17. Campbell, Ca., down to somewhere in So. California. Also, they wanted
  18. about $400 to install one of their special aux. pumps.

  20. 1) Has anyone seen/heard of something similar?
  21. 2) What type of pump/motor combination should I look for if I
  22.    attempt to try this myself?  What flow rate, what pressure for 
  23.    the pump, what rpm and h.p. for the motor?

  25. A couple of cool things I remember from the literature:  You could 
  26. set up the wiring so that the pump comes on with the dome light, 
  27. so that as you get into the car, the oil system is already starting 
  28. to pressurize, therefore you hardly even have to think about it.
  29. And, you can also include a timer in the circuit to run the pump for 
  30. 5 minutes or so after shutting off the engine, to help cool the oil
  31. better than if it just sat where it was.

  34. I think this could be a really slick addition to a car that might
  35. actually extend the natural life of the motor significantly!
