  21. One possible cause:

  23. Early Audi 4000's have been notorious for developing excessive vacuum 
  24. in the gas-tank because of a faulty vent-line valve (I forgot its proper
  25. name :) ) which is located just above the tank. To reach it, you will have
  26. to remove the plastic tank-cover in the trunk behind the rear seat.
  27. I have seen collapsed gas-tanks because of this. Strong fuel pump, no? :)
