  25. are you sure this tire was properly inflated?
  26. the august issue of C/D has an article about compact spares.
  27. get this: the corvette LT1 ran 0-60 only 0.1 sec slower (in 5.2 sec) with the
  28. compact spare on one of the rear wheels.  here are the numbers:

  35. i'd venture a guess that the vette was considerably harder on its
  36. compact spare during the 0-60 (300 bhp!) and skidpad runs (tires often start
  37. chunking) than your car was cruising along at 50 mph.  the article says
  38. that during the acceleration runs, the compact spare left a long thin 
  39. stripe of rubber on the pavement (the traction control was turned off).
  40. and besides, a bunch of guys from uniroyal did the One Lap of America
  41. (an 8000+ mile rally) with a compact spare on the rear left wheel.
