  16. We just got ESIX 4.04 here on a Dell 486/20.  We're having some difficulty
  17. with the ethernet setup.  Our network consists of about a dozen PCs, a
  18. server, and a few different *nix boxes.  We have no problems communicating
  19. between the *nix boxes via ping/rlogin/rsh/telnet/ftp (NFS is another
  20. matter).  And we have no problems communicating between the PCs and all
  21. the *nix boxes other than the ESIX box via ftp/rsh/telnet.  However, when
  22. we try doing a rsh or rcp from a PC to the ESIX system it invariably
  23. gives a "connection timed out" error message greater than 50% of the time.

  25. The only thing I found that sounds like a problem is that when I do an
  26. ifconfig -a it reports the ethernet board (emd0) as
  27.  
  28.     "flags=23<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS>"
  29.  
  30. instead of
  31.  
  32.     "flags=23<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING>"
  33.  
  34. The board is a 3Com 3c503 and I am not getting any errors on startup from
  35. the ethernet board.  I've been having trouble talking to a human in tech
  36. support so I thought I'd give this a shot while I'm waiting.  Any ideas?
