- I have big trouble with my serial port on SCO Unix.
- It looses characters during disk-i/o. It seems, that the adaptec 1542B
- hostadapter occupies the bus too long during disk-i/o.
-
- I have 16550A chips on my com-boards. The SCO driver supports them. I
- also tried "fas" from Uwe Doering.
- I changed the fifo trigger level with SCO sio to FCR_Rx1.
- I changed the bus on/off time for the adaptec to 4/12.
- Nothing of these worked. As soon as I copy a 1MB file, the driver
- looses characters, about 10-20 characters at a time.
-
- All seems to be configured correctly. I use CRTSFL in my atdialer and
- I verified that CRTSFL is set during connection with cu (with stty -a
- from another multiscreen). CLOCAL is not set during connection.
- CTSFLOW and RTSFLOW are also not set. With fas I used a minor device
- number of 80+port# and the /usr/lib/uucp/Dialer script.
- The cable to the modem is a flat ribbon cable, all 25 pins connected
- straight through. The modem is configured to use bidirectional hardware
- flow control (\Q3 on a Best 14400EC). I use a port speed of 9600bps,
- which should not be too high. My cpu is a 33 MHz 486DX, which should
- be fast enough.
-
- With cpu intensive programs running in the background, flowcontrol
- works fine: screen scrolls, then stops, then scrolls without loosing
- any character. But when copying 1Mb files in the background, it looses
- many characters !
-
- Has anyone a dumb serial card in conjunction with adaptec 1542B at
- 9600bps without character losses ?
- Is it possible to get it working with an adaptec or is it not possible ?
-
- N.B.
- On another system (at work) I have errors in floppy read/writes in
- conjunction with heavy disk i/o. This is probably the same problem,
- the adaptec prevents the cpu from accessing the bus.
- Probably you should not use bus master dma cards in ISA-bus systems !!!????
-
- This is perhaps the reason, why AT&T doesn't support the adaptec.
-
- Which SCSI Controller is supported by SCO Unix and does not use bus
- master dma ? Perhaps the WD7000 ?
