  30. In a shell discussions, you expect to hear solutions suggesting 
  31. tools like sed, awk, tr, sort, and their ilk.  Perl is just
  32. another one of these, albeit more functional.

  34. I try to propose the right solution, irrespective of its parentage.
  35. Often tasks aren't implementable in sh alone, but since this is a 
  36. shell newsgroup, as you've pointed out, I try very hard to avoid 
  37. writing the answer in C.

  40. however, you get to read the perl FAQ, which I shall send in the mail.
