- 386BSD does recognize 16550A FIFOs; check the boot-time messages. The
- problem seems to be in the distributed "com.c". A stopgap solution is
- to bring your DTE transmission rate as far down as you can afford
- (this will reduce the problem, but may not entirely solve it). Once
- you're ready to reconfigure your kernel, install the experimental
- "com.c" at agate.berkeley.edu. It seems to fix a lot of the problems.

-
- Check out /etc/rc. It has escape sequences that change the color at
- boot time. You should be able to fiddle with them and put something
- in /etc/rc.local.

-
- 386BSD uses a "pc3" terminal type (check out the termcap file for more
- info). If you want ANSI/vt100 emulation, use "screen" once you've
- logged on. Be warned that "screen" has a known bug (get the Unofficial
- Buglist for more info), and that ANSI emulation tends to be more
- successful than vt100 emulation (at least with the shipped "com.c").
