- Recently, we bought some U.S. Robotics V32.bis modems to upgrade
- our modem pool at work.
-
- Put one on a Sun 4/110- worked- no problem.
- Put one on a Sun IPC- worked- no problem.
-
- Tried to put one on our communications server (a Sun 3/180 with an
- ALM2 for the modem bank)- couldn't get it to work for beans.
-
- We are locking the line at 19.2K and setting up the modem accordingly.
- When calling in, the login prompt was always garbled, along with the
- password prompt, the MOTD, etc. You could type your login and password,
- but the prompts were garbage.
-
- We tried all the obvious stuff like :ap: and :p8: but finally came upon
- the following for a solution that would work:
-
- :sp#19200:ms=-parenb,cstopb,onlcr:
-
-
- Since we normally run 7-1-odd or 7-1-even, the above struct us as pretty
- strange (Never, I-mean-NEVER run 2 stop bits at greater than 110 baud...)
-
- So, my question to the net is this: Is there something strange with
- the parity handling/bit timing on an ALM2, or is it just some interaction
- with a USR modem and the ALM?
-
- I can't believe that it is the modem if I can run on an IPC with
- just 19200.std.
