  11. I always seem to get the really strange problems......

  13. HARDWARE: SPARCserver 4/490
  14. OS RELEASE: SunOS 4.1.1

  16. SOFTWARE INVOLVED: in.telnetd, vi
  17.  
  18. DESCRIPTION:
  19.     If a telnet connection is established on ttyp0, vi will not
  20.     work properly.  The screen size is either halved or cut to
  21.     4 lines.  According to the ":set all" subcommand of vi, all
  22.     vi options are properly set; the screen addressing is simply
  23.     shot.

  25.     This problem ONLY occurs when the connection is made to /dev/ttyp0.

  27.     The /etc/ttytab entry for ttyp0 is:
  28.        "ttyp0    none    network    off"
  29.     Note: the same entry is used for all telnet ttys; the problem only
  30.           occurs on ttyp0.

  32.     The /etc/ttys entry for ttyp0 is:
  33.        "02ttyp0"

  35. ATTEMPTED SOLUTION:
  36.        I thought that init might be confused; I verified the /etc/ttytab
  37.        entries and issued "kill -1 1" to refresh /etc/ttys.  This achieved
  38.        nothing.
  39.        
  40. QUESTIONS:
  41.     1) What the heck is going on?
  42.     2) Is there any way to prevent in.telnetd from using /dev/ttyp0,
  43.        while I look for a fix?
  44.     3) Why do these things happen to me?  8)
