- I always seem to get the really strange problems......
-
- HARDWARE: SPARCserver 4/490
- OS RELEASE: SunOS 4.1.1
-
- SOFTWARE INVOLVED: in.telnetd, vi
-
- DESCRIPTION:
- If a telnet connection is established on ttyp0, vi will not
- work properly. The screen size is either halved or cut to
- 4 lines. According to the ":set all" subcommand of vi, all
- vi options are properly set; the screen addressing is simply
- shot.
-
- This problem ONLY occurs when the connection is made to /dev/ttyp0.
-
- The /etc/ttytab entry for ttyp0 is:
- "ttyp0 none network off"
- Note: the same entry is used for all telnet ttys; the problem only
- occurs on ttyp0.
-
- The /etc/ttys entry for ttyp0 is:
- "02ttyp0"
-
- ATTEMPTED SOLUTION:
- I thought that init might be confused; I verified the /etc/ttytab
- entries and issued "kill -1 1" to refresh /etc/ttys. This achieved
- nothing.
-
- QUESTIONS:
- 1) What the heck is going on?
- 2) Is there any way to prevent in.telnetd from using /dev/ttyp0,
- while I look for a fix?
- 3) Why do these things happen to me? 8)
