I defined my FONTPATH to be $OPENWINHOME/lib/fonts (?) + some other directory
paths on the sparc file server where we deposited fonts provided us by Tektronix
with their XP27 and Xp330 tekXpress x-terminals.
The teks and Pc's (pc-nfs/humminbird eXceedp software via telnet to sun sparc
file server) work just fine. I think the Teks looks at a file called fonts.tbl
for fonts.alias and fonts.dir to find its fonts. (I've included those paths
in FONTPATH).
The problem is when I start openwin, it cant find the new century, courier bold, bitstream charter fonts I setup in my .Xdefaults.
I don't know much about x-terminals or the sun yet. I assume that the sun font
reader either does not use FONTPATH at all, or these fonts need to be setup
differently, somehow. All fonts physically live on the sun file server to which
we telnet to from the Tek's and Pc's; I'm not sure how the sun's work.
The fonts I defined in .Xdefaults are just the ones I found by doing xlsfonts
after openlook windows start up. I noticed that on the sun workstations, doing
an xlsfonts gives me fonts that are not listed when I do xlsfonts from the TEk's, namely something like coubo.something.12--these are the font formats used
in the sun .defaults file. I have not added or built any additional fonts.
The teks, I believe used fonts in .snf format. Can't the sun workstaions use
the
these just as well?
do I need to something more elaborate than just defining font paths?
what magic do I need to get the sun font reader to give me more than the default "lucidasans" fonts? Where on the sun does the default fonts get defined;
I could find (so far) no file that references "lucidasans" as default.??
