- We are running FrameMaker 3.1 on 3 Indigos XS24's under IRIX 4.0.5.
- (Probably 4.0.5A but I could be wrong). We have a floating license
- for 4 machines.
-
- Problem #1: The ability of each of the four machines to get a license
- seems to vary from day-to-day for no apparent reason.
- Even if you log into the machine that is the license server,
- you may (or may NOT) have to try 3 or 4 times to get a
- license. This problem is NOT due to the available licenses
- being used up as far as I can tell. On other machines the
- problem is even worse. For better or worse I didn't do
- anything special about how could or couldn't get a
- license.
-
- Problem #2: This is a very SEVERE problem, but I only encountered it
- today for the first time so I don't know how common
- it is. I was editing a document that was originally
- prepared under MS Word for Windows, imported into FrameMaker 3.0
- for Windows and then 'ftp'd' to an Indigo for final editing
- under FrameMaker 3.1. Twice when I moved the mouse to the
- upper left part of the FrameMaker window, in order to save
- my work, the WHOLE SCREEN WENT BESERK! The entire screen
- turned a light grey with various repeating patterns in
- quasi horizontal strips! This happened twice in a row.
-
- The first time only FrameMaker crashed. The second time
- the machine froze. I could rlogin into the frozen machine
- from another Indigo but the login only got as far as announcing
- the unread news before also freezing up. After rebooting the
- machine I was able to save my work.
-
- Questions: Has anyone else using FrameMaker 3.1 experienced either of
- these problems? Do I need to reinstall the software?
- Are these problems at all related to the infamous lockd bug?
- I would appreciate any input before I start a game of
- telephone tag with the Hotline folks. Thanks.
