- | My thanks to both Dave Olson and Johnny Chee Wah @ the University of
- | Toronto. It turns out our Exabyte drives had essentially random DIP switch
- | settings. When these switches are set correctly, the drive responds with
- | no problems. The most relevant switch is #1 which controls an Exabyte
- | memory test. The test takes 65 seconds when enabled. I'm surprised we
- | didn't see problems because of other bogus switch settings, such as parity
- | enabled/disabled or odd/even byte disconnect.
- |
- | Is there an SGI document that details supported Exabyte PROM versions and
- | DIP switch settings?
-
- Yes, there is an internal document. The jumpers on the MX board should
- be 1-4 on, 5-8 off; with some care they can be reached through the
- side of the chassis, without disassembling the drive. 1 is the one
- closest to the outside edge of the drive.
-
- SGI has only shipped 2 prom revs for 8200's that I know of (except that
- a customer posted recently that he got a third) 425?, 252T, and the 3rd
- reported one (I didn't save the posting), where '?' is a letter that I
- no longer remember for sure, but I think was 'A'.
