  26. There is actually a sentence some place in the install manual that
  27. tells you how to do this.  (here I go, flaming the IRIX manuals again)
  28. There is a command you need to load to initialize the hard drive and make
  29. it ready for loading of the OS.
  30. Ie the disk has to have a header written containing the partition
  31. sizes/bad blocks etc.
  32. I remember it took me a while to get it to work.
  33. Ie getting all the parametters right for my drive id etc.

  35. Just keep reading the install manual all the way through you will find it.
  36. I remember it took me 3-4 hours of hair pulling before
  37. I found it and then..  Trying to figure out how to use it.

  43. Make sure you put instructions on how to use the Disk initialise program.

  46. Also, another problem I had is that I made 4 partitions when I init the disk.
  47. /
  48. /usr
  49. /home
  50. /tmp
  51. plus a swap.
  52. on a 1gig WREN VII

  54. Then when I started to load the OS, the bloody inst program would ONLY
  55. see and load the OS on to a set partitions.  THE WRONG PARTITIONS.
  56. The only way around this was to make the partitons it wanted to
  57. use as / and /usr (mainly where it chose /usr) was to run the disk
  58. init program again and change the partition table to what it liked.
  59. BLOODY ANNOYING.

  61. Also, the other /home and /tmp partitions.
  62. I had to make the devices BY HAND.  I suppose thats no big deal but
  63. it took me a long while to figure out how IRIX did its devices.
  64. What about a MAKEDEV script or similar????
