- This is very common. You might be interested in the PXi upgrade being
- offered by Tektronix. Just call their 800 number and ask about it.

-
- SGI has been shipping a product to do just this since November 1991.
- If you are running a PI, Magnum, or Indigo on 4.0.1 or later, and have
- Display Postscript installed, the "TekPhaser" software product will do
- exactly what you want.
-
- Using TekPhaser, you can render text, color PostScript, and SGI Images
- directly to the DX printer. All rendering occurs on the host and has
- been tuned explicitly for the DX printer. I've seen orders of
- magnitude speedup in complex PS files such as those you mention. And
- the best part is, the faster your host, the faster the rendering.
-
- The interface is quite simple: TekPhaser makes your printer understand
- text, SGI Image, and PS directly. Just "lp filename" and away you go.
-
- Call the software express hotline for more details on this and the
- recently released successor product, Impressario. I believe the
- number is 800-800-4SGI (but I might be wrong!)
