  21. This is very common.  You might be interested in the PXi upgrade being
  22. offered by Tektronix.  Just call their 800 number and ask about it.

  30. SGI has been shipping a product to do just this since November 1991.
  31. If you are running a PI, Magnum, or Indigo on 4.0.1 or later, and have
  32. Display Postscript installed, the "TekPhaser" software product will do
  33. exactly what you want.

  35. Using TekPhaser, you can render text, color PostScript, and SGI Images
  36. directly to the DX printer.  All rendering occurs on the host and has
  37. been tuned explicitly for the DX printer.  I've seen orders of
  38. magnitude speedup in complex PS files such as those you mention.  And
  39. the best part is, the faster your host, the faster the rendering.

  41. The interface is quite simple: TekPhaser makes your printer understand
  42. text, SGI Image, and PS directly.  Just "lp filename" and away you go.

  45. recently released successor product, Impressario.  I believe the
  46. number is 800-800-4SGI (but I might be wrong!)
