  22. You don't necessarily *lose* anything.  Things that are not part of the 3.0  
  23. release (e.g., Icon, DSP stuff) are -by default- deleted as part of the upgrade  
  24. process.  However, it is very friendly about it, and you can search through the  
  25. list of changes and tell it NOT to delete stuff.

  27. The main thing you utterly lose is compatibilty *with NeXTstep 1.0*.  That is,  
  28. the interim-compatiblity that 2.0 provided (e.g., self = [super new]  
  29. everywhere) for 1.0 will not be in 3.0.  This can get you if you have really  
  30. old software. It didn't affect anything I have, though, so there probably isn't  
  31. much common software out there which is still 1.0 (NX_VOID comes to mind :-).

  33. NeXTSTEP 3.0 is assuredly one of the least painful releases I have ever heard  
  34. people talk about it.  Now if only they finally ship the darn thing...
