- Tune-Up 1.1.1 does not prevent the bug from happening as such; I've got
- 1.1.1, I've got dissappearing (and re-appearing) files. I've got a Mac
- II, 8MB Ram and one external HD (that's too a similar setup my Shapero
- above I wonder somehow that is related)?
-
- Although I've not done it, I've heard to further reduce the
- disappearing folders/files you have got to:
-
- 1) Copy off all your files off your HD as best you can (I didn't see a
- free tape back-up unit coming in my System 7 box by the way, funny as
- it's obviously neseccary; perhaps I'll see Apple in court over this...).
-
- 2) Switch your external HD off for all the following actions. I've heard
- off too many people now that 7 don't like externals, enough to disturb
- me a bit. Certainly my Mac has performed better with mine off for a week
- or two. I know it could be a dodgy drive or SCSI cable etc, but can that
- be with everyone who's mailled me with the problem and how come it did
- not cause a problem with 6.0.7.??
-
- 3) Reformat your HD with Apple HD SC setup booting off the Disk Tools
- floppy (or some other formatting tool you can trust).
-
- 4) Then install 7.0 or 7.0.1 as normal
-
- 5) Then restart your Mac *with extensions off*. That is, hold the shift
- key down when it's booting.
-
- 6) Then install tune-up.
-
- If I meet someone who has done this and still has folders from
- hell/dissappearing folders etc... well I'll probably scream as I reach
- for my 6.0.7 disks.

-
- I agree that NU is really quite excellent; except I've got a problem
- now... I'll send this in a seperate message...
