- I have the Xceed Macro 30 on my SE/30.
- Most of the time I run it in 8 bit mode because of the speed hit of 24bit
- mode (about 3 times slower for screen redrawing). The slowing is noticable
- with lots of windows redrawing although sometimes I have to pull a menu
- down to check if I am in 24bit.
-
- However, I would not trade the ability to do 24-bits for anything (well
- almost anything). Viewing JPEG images (the proper ones, not the
- redone 8bit ones) is an experience with a very large GeeWizz factor.
- QuickTime movies are really a waste of time without 24bit color.
- They don't look any good in 8 bits and are in fact slower in playing
- than in 24bits.
-
- For a trully amazing artistic experience try playing with some of
- the 24bit graphics programs in 24bit mode. PhotoShop is *really*
- impressive in 24bits.
-
- I would recommend spending the extra few hundred dollars on 24 bits
- because there are very noticable differences that you can see now
- and I am sure there will be more as time goes on.
