- Help!
-
- I thought I had nipped all of my problems in the bud. My hard disk was
- beginning to have problems spinning up, so I ordered a new disk and planned
- to my all of my data and programs from the old disk to the new one via a
- 3-headed SCSI connector. Well, the new disk arrived & I had assembled all of
- the cables (power cable with Y adaptor & appropriate SCSI cable). Of course,
- when I tried to get stuff moved over, the old disk refused to spin up. I can't
- believe that in the 5 or six years I had the disk, I booted it one time too
- many!
-
- Anyway, despite my pleadings, the old disk won't spin up. Nothing. Nada.
- Not a single sign of life. Of course, I had everything backed up, right?
- Well, it turns out my backup set is missing some key data I need.
-
- OK, here's my question. Does anyone out there know a way to start up a disk
- one last time? I don't care if it won't start a second time, I jusst need to
- get the data off & then I plan to throw it away. (Semi destructive methods
- are OK, as long as the data can be moved.)
-
- The disk is a Seagate ST277N. It's a 60 MB disk, that was set up internally
- in a Mac II. Its replacement is a 105 MB Quantum. I still have all the
- cables etc. & am willing to do most reasonable sounding things.
-
- The symptoms it displayed before dying were that it didn't like to spin up.
- Usually a couple of tries and a wap on the side (with the power off) were
- sufficient to coax it back to life. Not now!
-
- Please send me any ideas or suggestions you have. I'll summarize to the
- net, if things go well.
-
- NOTE: my e-mail address is not the same as the return path for this posting!
-
- Many thanks in advance!
