  12. Recently a friend of mine who owns a 512K mac (whit 128K Roms) asked me,
  13. if it would be possible, to do an upgrade to 4MB. I am usually familiar
  14. with microcomputer techniques/interfacing, but I know too few details
  15. about the mac hardware.
  16. As I have discovered, the main memory of a mac is not only connected to
  17. the CPU, but also to the video counter (kind of DMA?). Therefore
  18. it is not enough to add larger memories and connect the additional
  19. address-lines to the CPU. I know, that the older macs with the 64K Roms
  20. had a fixed location for the video-buffer at the top of the memory. How
  21. does this work with the 128K Roms? Now:

  23. - How looks the hardware memorymap of a Mac+ ?
  24. - Does anybody know how macs whit 128K Roms detect the actual amount
  25. of memory and calculate the location for the video-buffer?
  26. - Has already somebody done such an upgrade or knows where to get
  27. instructions/informations (Technotes, Magazines ...)
