- Recently a friend of mine who owns a 512K mac (whit 128K Roms) asked me,
- if it would be possible, to do an upgrade to 4MB. I am usually familiar
- with microcomputer techniques/interfacing, but I know too few details
- about the mac hardware.
- As I have discovered, the main memory of a mac is not only connected to
- the CPU, but also to the video counter (kind of DMA?). Therefore
- it is not enough to add larger memories and connect the additional
- address-lines to the CPU. I know, that the older macs with the 64K Roms
- had a fixed location for the video-buffer at the top of the memory. How
- does this work with the 128K Roms? Now:
-
- - How looks the hardware memorymap of a Mac+ ?
- - Does anybody know how macs whit 128K Roms detect the actual amount
- of memory and calculate the location for the video-buffer?
- - Has already somebody done such an upgrade or knows where to get
- instructions/informations (Technotes, Magazines ...)
-
- thanks a lot
