  16. In the interest of being able to remotely control various 
  17. devices by signals sent over a telephone line, which may 
  18. be simultaneously being used for modem communications, one 
  19. should check out a very robust and well characterized 
  20. product made by Moose Products, Inc. of 1510 Tate Blvd. SE 
  21. Hickory, NC 28603, tel 704 322-2333, the model MPI-800/280.

  23. This company (Moose Products really is the name) is a long 
  24. time, major manufacturer of security alarm systems and 
  25. components.  The MPI-800/280 is a component, I think the 
  26. cost is about $75, that will respond to various touch tone 
  27. sequences by closing or opening any of 6 isolated contact 
  28. relays (spdt 10A contacts) with local led indication, tone 
  29. response verification, and many, many other control options.

  31. In fact, the flexibility and security features are probably 
  32. more than simple computer reset require, but maybe you could 
  33. also start the morning coffee or something.  The unit will 
  34. require 12 volts at 150 millamp, is very reliable, and has 
  35. a telco approved interface.  It also allows connection of 
  36. a microphone to listen in to the environment, and a host 
  37. of other options.

  39. As system components, Moose Products are sold through local 
  40. (usually whosale only) alarm supply distributors, see your 
  41. yellow pages.

  43. I have used one for control of a remotely bootable computer 
  44. system for years.  One might prevail on a distributor to 
  45. give one a xerox copy of the 12 page installation manual 
  46. for evaluation.  The /280 is a relay board that is piggy-
  47. back on the MPI-800 logic and control board.
