- Many years ago, I began running into the INT problem when istalling
- more devices in our computers. Namely, not having enough interrupts
- to use. Since then we switched to microchannel and life has been a
- breeze. Now I'm considering replacing my personal machine with an ISA
- bus Dell, but can't shake those old ISA memories out of my head.
- Question: if I were to go with a SCSI controller (for a HD and in the
- future, a tape backup, a CD ROM player, and whatever I end up drooling
- over for the SCSI) will such a SCSI system use only one interrupt? If
- instead I go with an IDE HD and later add SCSI for other devices, does
- this combo use two ints (IDE and SCSI)?
-
- Do you netters run into the interrupt shortage on your ISA machines?
- Or do the newer machines have enough interrupt now to allow more
- breathing room. (Our old XTs had a limited number of ints, I recall
- reading that newer ISAs introduced more ints, but am not sure.)
-
- Thanks for any input.
