- I have an old IBM PC (pre-XT) that has 256K on the motherboard (4 banks of
- nine 64Kx1 chips) and an add-on card with another 256K using the same chips.
- It finally developed its first hardware problem: When I turn it on, the
- Power-On Self Test shows some code numbers (something like 201 2403; I don't
- remember the exact numbers) and then PARITY ERROR 1.
-
- I'm sure that the numbers are trying to point me to the bad memory chip, but I
- haven't a clue as to how to decode them. I'd like to avoid swapping chips,
- one at a time, looking for the problem. Anybody know how to read these?
- Thanks in advance for any assistance.
