- Ok, I'll admit it! I am one of those people who cannot
- possibly have enough speed. I guess I have done too much work on
- real computers (Sun Sparc, IBM RS/6000), which has spoiled me.
- My home computer is now sufficiently outdated (386dx-20) to
- justify moving up to the 486's. I had hoped that the new VESA
- local bus standard would be the added advantage to get me going.
- My problem now is, what's the big deal about local bus. I have
- seen some benchmarks recently from local bus vs. coprocessed
- video (both S3 chipsets) which shows only minimal gains (1-2%).
- This is hardly noticable, nor is it worth the extra cost of local
- bus now. (is the S3 built around the 8MHz ISA bus?) Since I am
- probably going to buy this machine soon, is my money better spent
- by using the money to buy a larger monitor, a faster 486, a
- faster hard drive, or this speedy local bus (*YAWN*).
- Has anyone seen better improvements than this, because I am
- not impressed!
