- Steve,
-
- I just moved a Conner 105 meg drive out of my machine where it
- had co-existed with a Maxtor LXT-213 drive. The only "problem" I had was that
- the maxtor needed an extra jumper as the slave so that the led driver on the
- IDE card would see activity. I have also used a Conner 120 meg drive in that
- setup as well. If that conner is the 1 inch high 120 meg, it should work just
- fine with the maxtor LXT-7213 (which is what I replaced the 105 with) which is
- the new lower cost maxtor (available many places for under $500).
-
- Yes - there are problems with mixing IDE drives, but they are
- mainly with the older ones typically less than 100 megs in size (note the
- qualifiers!) and sometimes can be "solved" by using the right one as the master
- and the other as the slave where it won't work the other way up. The majority
- of the newer ones co-exist just fine. Of course, the safest is to match not
- only manufacturer, but drive, but this is overkill.
