- It was very interesting to read Sam T's interview on DELPHI about the new
- Falcon. I have a remark however regarding RAM expansion. He said that
- expanding the RAM on the Falcon will be via an 'Atari RAM board'. This sounds
- very similar (at least in concept) to RAM expansion on the TT. The Atari
- TT RAM expansion board has two problems as I far as I can make out, 1) it's
- *very* expensive, 2) it's also very difficult to get hold of. Instead most
- people I believe (including myself) opt for the German 3rd party board. This
- too has it's problems though, it's expensive (not as expensive as the Atari
- one), about 200 pounds (no ram chips) and it doesn't always necessarily work
- dependening on the TT motherboard, for example, I can never have the
- TT cache on because of timing problems (bombs out - yes they are suppose
- to be replacing the board but I've been waining almost 3 months already).
-
- The SIMM slots on the STE are an ideal solution, RAM is easy to install
- and cheap, just look at the number of adverts for STE upgrades in British
- mags to realise how successful there are. Now why didn't they do the same
- for the Falcon!? I hope RAM upgrades on the Falcon won't be expensive
- as it is for the TT.
-
- Otherwise I think the Falcon sounds like a great machine. I'd be interested
- to hear if anyone knows how it rates speed wise against the TT.
