  12.     I just aquired some "disk II" floppy drives.  I want
  13.     to use one as an external.
  14.  
  15.     The connector is a 20 pin ribbon type on the drives.  The 
  16.     drives all work fine on the inside port.  Boot-up, etc..

  18.     I took out the 19 pin D connector for the external drive, and 
  19.     put in a right angle 20 pin connector instead to facilitate
  20.     the external drives. I cut off pin "20" on the connector.

  22.     The external drive works, except when trying to format
  23.     a floppy (as a test) it comes back "disk is write protected".
  24.  
  25.     The new disks work fine on the inside port.

  27.     Does anyone have any hardware info on the ports? I rang out
  28.     the lines before changing the connector.  They are all common,
  29.     pin for pin, except pins 16 (not used), 17 (disk select I
  30.     think. It goes to pin 20 and 21 on the same chip on each
  31.     connector), 9, and 10.  I don't know where 9 & 10 go.

  34.     So the disk works except it sees write protect.
