- I'm looking to buy a CD-ROM drive. My intention is mostly just to
- access the various CDs of free software out there (e.g. AB20, Fish,
- NetGems, etc.) but CDTV compatibility would probably be nice and audio
- out would of course be quite cool. (I have an audio CD player, but I
- can't control it from my Amiga :) My system is a garden-variety 2000
- with 1MB chip/4 MB fast RAM, 40 MB HD, 2091 HD controller, 2.04 in
- ROM. (I also have a GVP RAM board and a CMI Multiport board, if that
- makes a difference.)
-
- I've caught some of the tail end of the recent discussion about
- CD-ROMs here, but unfortunately I missed most of it. (Besides, I was
- flat broke and unable to afford neat toys at the time :-) Therefore,
- I am looking for any comments anyone might have on adding a CD-ROM
- drive to an Amiga. In particular:
-
- - any comments on the performance of the various CD filesystems out
- there. Both the Xetec and ASIM ones seem to be quite
- feature-rich; therefore, I would like to know about their
- performance, especially on compatibility with non-Amiga-specific
- disks and CDTV titles.
-
- - any comments on good, reasonably inexpensive internal CD-ROM
- drives and where to buy them. (I intend to mount this in the
- 2000s 5.25" bay, and would like to use my existing SCSI controller.)
-
- - anything else you might have to add.
-
- I seem to remember someone saying he had a FAQ file on Amiga CD-ROM.
- Unfortunately I don't remember who that was. Whoever you are, if
- you're reading this, I would really appreciate being mailed a copy or
- at least informed where I can pick it up.
-
- Much thanks in advance,
- --Rob
