- Well I can't vouch for long term reliability as I've only had mine for about
- three weeks. It does work well with both QuarterBack (5.0.1) and BTN/TAR.
-
- My SCSI interrogator says the mechanism inside is a Caliper CP150 if thats
- of any help.
-
- The only real problem I had in installing mine was I had to upgrade my Supra

- Like I stated, I know next to nothing about tape drives in general and I've
- only had mine a couple of weeks, but so far I'm fairly satisfied. There are
- some minor annoyances which either come from tape drives in general or my
- Supra interface. If you are doing a tape operation such as fast forward
- or rewind, you can't get to any other devices on the SCSI bus until that
- operation is finished. Also the way that QuarterBack handles multiple archives
- on a single tape is in my opinion kind of kludgy and could be MUCH better.
- Example: If you want to get to the third archive on a tape, with Quarterback
- you have to read in the first backup catalog, fast forward past it, cancel
- the restore, read in the second backup catalog, fast forward past it, cancel
- the restore, etc. While with BTN/TAR (or with AmigaDOS 2.04's MAGTAPE command
- you just tell it to skip past the first two archives and it does it. If you
- try to position the tape and then go into QuarterBack forget it, the first
- thing it does is rewind the tape. If you bring up QuarterBack and then use
- MAGTAPE to position the tape where you want it QuarterBack refuses to read it.
- There is a patch program to make my QB v 5.0.2 but I don't know if it solves
- any of these quirks. I've heard good things about Ami-Back but haven't tried
- it yet. BTW the company that markets Ami-Back (moonlighter?) I have been told
- also has some kind of drive/software combo that you can buy. I recall something
- like it was a refurbished Archive 2150 viper plus Ami-Back for $475 US.
- This is just rumor though, contact the respective company for the truth.
-
- Hope this helps some.

- Can't help you there, sorry.
