- The VXL-30 comes in 25, 40, and 50 Mhz versions. They use 68030's
- that are rated at those speeds. A 40 Mhz cpu chip is more expensive
- and maybe the MMR people want a lower cost unit.
-
- Overdriving a 40Mhz or 50 Mhz 68030 to 60 mhz may work, but will heat
- up the chip significantly. A VXL-30 in an A2000 may survive the speed
- up where as one in an A500 may heat itself to an early death. I know
- someone that overclocked a 68020 a few years ago to get a unit to work
- at 33 Mhz. He got it up to 30 mhz and it seemed to work, but when he
- touched the chip to see how warm, he got a burnt finger. The cpu chip
- failed shortly afterwards. The faster you go, the more heat generated.
