- I also have a GVP 33MHZ combo board and an external syquest. I also have
- an internal HD (boot drive), external HD and an external CD-ROM connected to
- the Combo board. I have no problems when booting up my system. Regardles if
- I have the drives turned on, cartridge/CD not inserted. Any combination
- you can imagine. Because my internal HD is a boot drive, I have no delay
- in booting. I issue GVPSCSICTRL -R to rescan the bus at the end of my
- User-Startup to rescan the bus incase any of my other drives fail to spin
- up in time at the start of the boot process. At one time I could not boot
- my system when the syquest was turned off. To solve that, I removed the
- SCSI terminator from the syquest. You may need to experiment with the SCSI
- terminators in your HD's to get a working combination.
-
- I think the GVP series II to be a reliable and configurable controller.
- MY CD-ROM does not like to share the SCSI bus. GVP FaaaastPrep allows you
- to set reselection off in the RDB to solve the problem. Well a CD you can
- not set the RDB so GVPSCSICTRL can be used to turn of reselection. My
- external HD is actually a MFM drive connected to an Adaptec 4000 MFM-SCSI
- contoller. At one time I needed to issue the mount command for this drive
- but the GVP can write and read the RDB on this drive now (auto-mounting).
- The only restriction being that this drive has to be unit 0. With multiple
- drives I would need to wait for all the drives to be recognized before the
- boot process would continue. Now as soon as it finds a boot drive ready,
- she rips. I guess you could say I am a happy customer. I just wish they
- would have more people answering the phone. Maybe all this time I was
- beta testing there voice-mail system:-)
