- The 15 or 16bit modes have _no_ color palette. They are true color and
- programs that write 24bit just cut off the lowest bits. And for programs
- that _create_ 24bit images the rendering time isn't a bottleneck. For
- programs that just move or copy images the 16bit modes are inherently
- faster since only 2/3rd of the data has to be accessed.

- Depends, the S3's aren't better chips. In fact, they are much slower than
- the ET4000. It's just that they can do a couple of blitter operations
- themselves. I'm not sure if this is really faster but as it occurs in
- parallel to the CPU operation it can increase overall speed for window
- operations.
