RenderMan is not only a script based package, it is a full compiler that
allow you to write your own shaders (surface shaders, light shaders, volume
shaders, transformation shaders, displacement shaders and imager shaders),
so you can easily add any features, just like you create C libraries.
By the way, for those who are not familiar with RenderMan, the language is
a sort of extension to the C language, with new types and constructs that
allow you to efficiently write rendering programs.
It's funny to hear people saying that they would buy RenderMan if it were
cheaper while I sent an article in that group a year ago saying that I had
a fairly complete RenderMan emulation C++ library (including the shader language) that I wanted to make available to the Amiga community, given that you folks continue to improve it. I received no answers. The offer is still on, so if you're feeling up to implement the missing features (such as patches, meshes, ...), then give me a call!
