- Well it finally happened. My 3B1 seems to have died due to several disk
- read errors. When I try to boot it up, I get several lines of the marching
- boxes and then the message: DISK READ ERROR, at which point it tries to
- boot off of the floppy and then back to the hard disk, etc etc etc. Has
- anyone recovered from a problem like this. I have not backed up my system
- in quite awhile, so I would at least like to recover the files in my
- home directory: /u/chris. What I am wondering is that can I add the
- bad blocks to the BBT (using the diagnostics disk) then follow the instructions
- for Updating software (in the Installation guide) to install the software.
- It looks like I only need to install the O/S. I have all the disks I need to
- recover my software, so this to me looks like the route to go. Any thoughts
- comments, suggestions?
- Thanks, also e-mail to me would be fine: chrisn@water.ca.gov
