- A Description of Data for Software Engineering
-
-
- On Friday 11th September, an ad-hoc
- meeting of those interested in the NWI
- proposal ' A Description of Data for
- Software Engineering' will be hosted by the
- CDIF Technical Committee at the American
- Hotel in Amsterdam.
-
- The NWI Proposal covers the development
- of an Information Model for Software
- Engineering, the provision of IRDS Content
- Modules and PCTE Common Data Schemas
- for this Information Model and the
- provision of a Transfer Format for it,
- enabling tool-to-tool interchange.
-
- The Proposal was voted on at the ISO/IEC
- JTC1/SC7 Plenary in London in June 1992,
- and has gone forward for JTC1 Ballot. An
- Interim Working Group has been formed to
- provide a more detailed definition of the
- work to the 1993 SC7 Plenary.
-
- The objective of this meeting is to discuss
- with those interested any inputs they wish
- to provide to the convenor to help in the
- drafting of the plan of work for the newly-
- formed Interim Working Group. This will
- help the preparation of an initial plan for
- discussion at the first formal meeting of the
- Interim Working Group later in the year.
-
- A presentation will be made of the current
- thoughts of how the work could progress,
- and then a discussion will be held for any
- issues raised by those present to be
- discussed.
-
- This meeting is one of a series to be held in
- the third quarter of 1992 in Europe, North
- America and Japan to gather inputs into the
- proposed plans for this group.
-
- If you are interested in attending, please
- complete the attached form and return it to
- the address given. A copy of the NWI
- Proposal will be sent to all attendees before
- the meeting.
-
-
-
- The CDIF Technical Committee will be giving a one-
- day briefing on their work, which forms a significant
- input to the NWI Proposal at the same venue on
- Thursday 10th September. Please contact Mike Imber
- at the address below for further details.

- The purpose of the Seminar is to introduce the CDIF (CASE
- Data Interchange Format) Standards. It is designed to show
- managers involved in the development of computer systems,
- or responsible for CASE strategy, how CDIF can help them
- protect their investment in CASE information, and increase
- their choices for development. The sessions cover:
-
- The Problems: The current problem of moving
- information between CASE Tools, both within and across
- organisations; the problem of locked-in CASE information.
-
- The Solution: The solution offered by CDIF; technical
- overview of the CDIF solution; current work on CDIF
