  54. On Friday 11th September, an ad-hoc 
  55. meeting of those interested in the NWI 
  56. proposal ' A Description of Data for 
  57. Software Engineering' will be hosted by the 
  58. CDIF Technical Committee at the American 
  59. Hotel in Amsterdam.
  60.  
  61. The NWI Proposal covers the development 
  62. of an Information Model for Software 
  63. Engineering, the provision of IRDS Content 
  64. Modules and PCTE Common Data Schemas 
  65. for this Information Model and the 
  66. provision of a Transfer Format for it, 
  67. enabling tool-to-tool interchange.

  69. The Proposal was voted on at the ISO/IEC 
  70. JTC1/SC7 Plenary in London in June 1992, 
  71. and has gone forward for JTC1 Ballot.  An 
  72. Interim Working Group has been formed to 
  73. provide a more detailed definition of the 
  74. work to the 1993 SC7 Plenary.
  75.  
  76. The objective of this meeting is to discuss 
  77. with those interested any inputs they wish 
  78. to provide to the convenor to help in the 
  79. drafting of the plan of work for the newly-
  80. formed Interim Working Group.  This will 
  81. help the preparation of an initial plan for 
  82. discussion at the first formal meeting of the 
  83. Interim Working Group later in the year.

  85. A presentation will be made of the current 
  86. thoughts of how the work could progress, 
  87. and then a discussion will be held for any 
  88. issues raised by those present to be 
  89. discussed.

  91. This meeting is one of a series to be held in 
  92. the third quarter of 1992 in Europe, North 
  93. America and Japan to gather inputs into the 
  94. proposed plans for this group.

  162. The purpose of the Seminar is to introduce the CDIF (CASE 
  163. Data Interchange Format) Standards.  It is designed to show 
  164. managers involved in the development of computer systems, 
  165. or responsible for CASE strategy, how CDIF can help them 
  166. protect their investment in CASE information, and increase 
  167. their choices for development.  The sessions cover:

  169. The Problems:  The current problem of moving 
  170. information between CASE Tools, both within and across 
  171. organisations; the problem of locked-in CASE information.

  173. The Solution:  The solution offered by CDIF; technical 
  174. overview of the CDIF solution; current work on CDIF 
  175. implementations; conformance metrics.

  177. Future Directions:  Current work; CDIF and 
  178. Repositories; Standards Harmonisation; future plans.

  180. The Organisations:  Standards Organisations; the CDIF 
  181. Technical Committee; making a contribution.

  184. with the speakers, who are senior members of the CDIF
