- The disadvantages to running a mutli-protocol network become more
- apparent the larger it gets. The level of sophistication of the routing
- code for one protocol in a router versus another becomes clear as you
- stress the box. The result CAN be that you take out a portion of your
- network due to a malfunction in a protocol. Mind you, IP is just as
- much a possibility for this as any other.
-
- You also have to know more about these other protocols so that you can
- debug them.
-
- I'm not saying you shouldn't do it: just recognize you are running
- parallel networks that just happen to use the same physical facilities.
- And I certainly wouldn't advocate tunneling. That's always been a bad
- idea.
