- We are using remote access to Quickmail server in a number of ways. We have a
- modem attached to the mailserver. You will need to set this up in your Admin
- software on the Mailserver. No additional comms software is needed on the
- mailserver, QM provides all this through their software and Apple Comms
- Toolbox.
-
- At the remote location you can use Quickmail Remote, provided with QM, or any
- standard comms package. QM Remote completely simulates the look and feel of
- QM, as if you were back on your local network. This is the best solution for
- those users who can only cope with a limited number of applications and ways
- to do things.
-
- For the more experienced user any comms pakage will do. Just dial up and go
- through the logon procedure. The screen display is very text based but quit
- effective. More attention will be needed on individual passwords if you are
- to avoid interference from outside - however no known breach of security
- beyond QM at any sites, so far.
-
- Pre QM 2.5 releases more stable for this type of remote work. QM 2.5.1 had some
- fixes. Further fixes promised.
-
- We have used AppleTalk Remote, which has broader application than QM, but will
- not run on QM Server. You will have to run it on another mac on the network.
-
- If you only require QM access, the advantage of the modem on the server is
- network security and the opportunity to set up QM-QM connections with other QM
- sites.
-
- Good Luck
