  22.  IBM is initiating a Beta program for future versions of their                                                                                        
  23.  LAN Systems products.  The software is being made available for                                                                                      
  24.  evaluation and application development purposes and should NOT be                                                                                    
  25.  used in production.                                                                                                                                  
  26.                                                                                                                                                       
  27.  The following products are currently available through the Beta                                                                                      
  28.  program:

  30.  *   OS/2 LAN Server 3.0

  32.  *   IBM Network Transport Services/2

  36.  OS/2 LAN Server Version 3.0 Advanced is the first network server to                                                                                  
  37.  fully exploit the power of the OS/2* 2.0 operating system.  New

  40.  *   386 HPFS, boosts overall performance

  62.  Complementing the OS/2 LAN Server are the DOS LAN Requester                                                                                          
  63.  (DLR) and the OS/2 Requester. The DOS LAN Requester includes                                                                                         
  64.  the IBM LAN Support Program Version 1.3, and has performance                                                                                         
  65.  improvements over the previous DOS LAN Requester. The OS/2                                                                                           
  66.  Requester has redirected install feature, 802.2 VDD, TCP/IP                                                                                          
  67.  coexistence and performance improvements.                                                                                                            
  68.  IBM NETWORK TRANSPORT SERVICES/2 (NTS/2)                                                                                                             
  69.                                                                                                                                                       
  70.  IBM Network Transport Services/2 provides:                                                                                                           
  71.                                                                                                                                                       
  72.  * Programming interfaces (NetBios, IEEE 802.2 and Network Driver                                                                                     
  73.    Interface Specification (NDIS)) necessary for OS/2 2.0 LAN                                                                                         
  74.    enablement.  NTS/2 provides the transport protocols and network                                                                                    
  75.    adapter software to run network applications.                                                                                                      
  76.                                                                                                                                                       
  77.  * Integrated with NTS/2 is LAN Configuration Installation Distrib-                                                                                   
  78.    ution (CID) support which enables the LAN Adapter and Protocol                                                                                     
  79.    Support (LAPS) installation diskette images to be installed and                                                                                    
  80.    configured at a client workstation from a code server along with                                                                                   
  81.    other CID enabled products.                                                                                                                        
  82.                                                                                                                                                       
  83.    The installation process is performed by an individual who initi-                                                                                  
  84.    ates the installation process at their workstation and performs                                                                                    
  85.    other tasks such as removing/replacing diskettes when prompted and                                                                                 
  86.    re-IPLing the system when prompted.  This individual would not be                                                                                  
  87.    required to know the responses to detailed product installation                                                                                    
  88.    questions.                                                                                                                                         
  89.                                                                                                                                                       
  90.    The answers to the product installation questions are kept in                                                                                      
  91.    response files which contain specific responses to each installa-                                                                                  
  92.    tion question.  The response files are unique to each product.                                                                                     
  93.    Each product provides either a utility or a model which the system                                                                                 
  94.    administrator can use to generate the response files.                                                                                              
  95.    A procedure file which may be tailored is set up by a system                                                                                       
  96.    administrator and stored on the code server.  This procedure file                                                                                  
  97.    contains the commands which initiate product installations for                                                                                     
  98.    other CID enabled products such as IBM LAN Server 3.0.                                                                                             
  99.                                                                                                                                                       
  100.  * Novell* NetWare* Requester support is enabled via NTS/2 allowing                                                                                   
  101.    existing NetWare applications to access NetWare Servers through                                                                                    
  102.    the NDIS interface.  The data from the NetWare requester applica-                                                                                  
  103.    tion is directed to the network adapter software associated with                                                                                   
  104.    the either a token-ring or Ethernet adapter.                                                                                                       
  105.                                                                                                                                                       
  106.  * Using NTS/2, DOS applications written to the NetBios and IEEE                                                                                      
  107.    802.2 interfaces on OS/2 2.0 are supported.  This virtual Local                                                                                    
  108.    Area Network (LAN) support enables these DOS applications to share                                                                                 
  109.    an adapter with other DOS and OS/2 applications running on the                                                                                     
  110.    same machine.
