  10. I found rather lately that my ATI Graphics Ultra runs in its VGA mode
  11. (I am blushing all over). Well, I installed the 8514a mode and
  12. expected a big gain in speed of the display. But, surprise, nothing
  13. of this sort! The screen is a trifle slower. This becomes evident
  14. with, e.g., the Tex previewer of the EmTex package, which now needs
  15. more time to set up a page.

  17. Of course I realize that the 8514a mode has to 
  18. calculated more pixels that the standard VGA mode. But I had hoped that
  19. the graphics accelerator would be much overcompensating. (Of course I
  20. like the better resolution too).

  22. Am I expecting too much? (In case it matters, this is a 486/33MHz with
  23. 16MB RAM).
