- Shutdown didn't do anything, and startup started up a lot of old programs that
- behaved strangely. What I did was to hold down left shift-left ctrl-f1 during
- startup. I pushed them down when the screen went white, and held them until
- the disk light went off and stayed off for a while (the screen was still white.
- The Readme, where I got this idea, says hold them until icons appear, but
- I don't think they would have.) This killed all the funny programs except a
- seamless Windows one; fixed their icons; and made shutdown work again.
