- Subject: PAS-16 and OS/2 2.0 sample playback problems (mysterious IRQ
- conflict)
- Summary: Works on DOS fine, SB-compat mode works on OS/2, but PAS mode won't.

- I'm having a weird problem with my new Pro AudioSpectrum 16 and OS/2 --
- I can't play back samples in PAS-16 mode. It just loops over and over like
- there is an IRQ conflict somewhere.... The Soundblaster compatibility side
- is just fine (things like Wolfenstein 3D work great), but sample playback
- in non-Soundblaster-mode dosen't work on OS/2. It works perfectly under
- DOS 5.0....
- (Yes, I tried booting DOS 5 from C: in an OS/2 VDM, but that was even
- worse; PLAYFILE locked the window up and I had to just close it)
- Right now, I've got the PAS's IRQ set to 5 for PAS mode and 7 for SB mode.
- (I can't print anymore either, but that was kinda expected, though my old
- non-Pro-Soundblaster let me print even with the SB set to IRQ 7 also....)
- Reversing the two (SB mode to 5, PAS mode to 7) causes the samples to loop
- under DOS as well, so that's not a solution. Using high IRQ's dosen't seem
- to help either. I've also got an NE2000-compatible Ethernet board to deal
- with (I used to have it on IRQ 5, now it's on IRQ 2) and a mouse (on COM1)
- and modem (on COM2, both standard IRQ 3 and 4)....
-
- Any ideas? Booting DOS every time I want to play samples is a pain....
- It's bad enough that I have to do it for playing MODs. (I'd also love to
- be able to print without booting up DOS too...) My guess is that OS/2 is
- doing strange things with the interrupt vectors.
-
- Also, I know this has been asked before, but can I use the SCSI port on the
- PAS-16 to hook up a SCSI hard disk and use it under OS/2? (I don't plan to
- boot from it, just use it as a third drive; I have two IDE's running now)
-
- Thanks in advance....
