- - Is there such a thing ? I'm not talking about the multi $100, 4-or-8 port
- - proprietary jobs that require special drivers, and are usually used for
- - multi-user systems. I mean a regular rinkeydink COM card with a '16-bit'
- - card edge that allows jumpering the IRQ up into the 9-15 region...
- -
- - A related thing I'm curious about... does the 16550 UART have a buffer
- - only on the receive side, or is there one on the Tx side as well ?
- - It seems almost too obvious to ask, but that would be a way to get around
- - the 1k interrupt/second limitation...
- -
- - Perhaps, before long, there will be a 'C' release of that chip?

- I went hunting for the same thing. In the Computer Shopper I found a few
- places claiming to have such boards. I called a couple of them. USA
- Electronics Inc. in Dallas, Tx has, so they say, 16 bit boards with
- selectable interrupts. Their tech voice line is (214) 631-7800. They
- told me I wanted a SIO264 (with 16550AFN UARTs) at $179.00 USD. They
- have non-16550 versions as well. There were a few other places too.
- This was the only source (The Computer Shopper) that had listings for
- such cards.
-
- I'd be interested in what you find out and if you buy one how well it
- works.
