- I need to install a Hercules display controller next to my SVGA
- so I can get 'true' Hercules.
-
- The SVGA has a Tseng labs ET4000 chipset and comes with a VMODE.COM
- program which allows me to emulate Hercules. This works fine if I
- boot up with DOS, but if I start a DOS session under OS/2 it is not
- 100% compatible (I'm working on a program which writes directly to
- the Hercules display memory, and a that point it fails). So the
- solution seems to be a dual-display setup, but that doesn't work
- either!
-
- I had a dual display setup like this on my old DOS 286 machine, and
- it was fine (using some tricks I got from Richard Wilton's excellent
- book on video systems - this involves disabling some of the VGA display
- memory when you switch to Hercules). Now under OS/2 these same tricks
- no longer work. In a full-screen DOS session I can get the display to
- switch, but keyboard input does not show on the screen. Then I have to
- kill the DOS session...
-
- Any tips? Please mail direct to me: bokkie@uctvax.uct.ac.za
