  14. I have been using OS/2 on a 386sx16 w/ 6M for a while, and I have a couple
  15. of observations, and some questions:

  17. - I was able to borrow 2M from a friend to see if the speed improved. It was
  18.   a noticeable, but small improvement, but nothing that I thought was worth
  19.   it.
  20.  
  21. - I have heard recently that a fast hard-drive makes a difference. Is this
  22.   true? In that case, I would love to replace my ridiculous 40M 27ms drive
  23.   with a 200M, 12-15ms IDE drive. Any comments? Will this enable me to make
  24.   better use of the extra 2M, if I upgrade to 8M?

  26. - I have a Plus hardcard w/ 100M and a cached 9ms access-time. Can I boot
  27.   and run OS/2 off this drive (d:)?

  29. - I have been using PmComm for a bit, toying with the idea of registering 
  30.   it, but it doesn't do scripts in the pre-registered version, and I don't 
  31.   want to have to pay 89.95 to find out that their implementation stinks.
  32.   Has anyone registered it, and how is it? Is there another shareware comm
  33.   program out there that is a little cheaper, and as functional, and nice?

  35. - I use PmComm, and DOS ProComm before it, to log in to the computer at
  36.   school to get mail and news, but recently I have been losing the
  37.   connection, and had to reboot my computer, since although I could hang
  38.   up by disconnecting the line from the computer, I couldn't get the modem to
  39.   hang up. I am using a Zoom Sendfax 2400 modem. Does anyone have any idea
  40.   why this is happening?

  42. - Also recently (coincidence ?), I have had to double-click _TWICE_ on some
  43.   of the program folders on my desktop, since the first double-click only
  44.   moves them into memory (shaded background, ie minimized). Why? Very annoying!

  46. - Does anyone know of a way to have the desktop folders minimized (as opposed
  47.   to not loaded) upon bootup? This would be very nice, having such a slow 
  48.   computer. I _am_ going to get a 486-33+ motherboard sometime, but I have
  49.   no cash yet, and it sound like RAM and a fast hard-drive are more effective
  50.   in any case (as long as I don't run extremely processor intensive apps all
  51.   the time).

  53. - How fast does the memory have to be on a 486-50? 60ns? 50ns?
  54.   On a 486-33? DX-2 25/50? DX-2 33/66?
